REWIRE PESTLE Analysis results at the ARES Conference

SBA Research organised the 16th edition of the ARES Conference from August 17th to August 20th, 2021. The event was held in an online format and gathered 340 attendees from more than 39 countries. Among the participants, representatives of the REWIRE project attended the conference.

Dr. Sara Ricci, from the Brno University of Technology (Czech Republic), presented the PESTLE Analysis on Cybersecurity Education results together with other colleagues, namely Vladimir Janout, Simon Parker, Jan Jerabek, Jan Hajny, Argyro Chatzopoulou and Remi Badonnel. Moreover, Dr. Ricci led the third round of the workshop on Education, Training and Awareness in Cybersecurity (ETACS).

ETACS III included a panel discussion on Current Issues and Trends in Cybersecurity Training and Education, in which representatives of the 4 pilot projects (SPARTA, CONCORDIA, ECHO, and CyberSec4Europe) were also present, while REWIRE was represented by Dr. Edmundas Piesarskas, from the Lithuanian Cybercrime Center of Excellence for Training, Research and Education.

One of the highlights of the Conference was the intervention “Cyber education and skills at EU level” by Dr. Fabio Di Franco from ENISA who provided a holistic view on the nature and characteristics of the skills gap in Europe and the results of the joint effort done with other EU players (e.g. the pilots of the EU Competence Network). He also provided insights from the cyber education database: How many students graduate each year in cybersecurity as well as gender balance and skills acquired. Finally, Dr. Di Franco reported on a new EU Skills Framework which aims to close the cybersecurity skills’ gap on the European labour market, building comprehensive bridges between European workplace context and learning environment through an EU skills framework.
